Marib: Two Killed, 14 Injured in Houthi Attacks on Displacement Camps
Civilians were killed and wounded in Marib governorate, central Yemen, on Friday as a result of a wave of attacks carried out by Houthi militias using ballistic missiles and drones, targeting both military and civilian sites, including one of the displacement camps.
Local and media sources told Nashwan News that the attacks targeted military camps, civilian facilities, and displacement camps. Meanwhile, the local authority in the city stated that the Houthi militia continued its "escalatory approach of targeting civilians and populated areas."
A statement issued by the local authority, a copy of which was obtained by Nashwan News, added that the city of Marib came under rocket bombardment this morning, Friday, August 7, 2026, carried out by the militia using multiple ballistic missiles and drones. The strikes targeted displacement camps and scattered residential neighborhoods, resulting in two martyrs and 14 injured, including women and children.
The statement affirmed: "The local authority of Marib governorate confirms that these repeated criminal attacks targeting civilians and displacement camps constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. It holds the terrorist Houthi militia, backed by the Iranian regime, fully responsible for these crimes and their resulting humanitarian repercussions."
It pointed out that "targeting innocent civilians and defenseless displaced persons clearly exemplifies this militia's criminal approach based on violence, terrorism, and striking at the unarmed." The authority further stressed that "these criminal attacks will not undermine the resilience and steadfastness of the people and residents of Marib governorate, nor will they deter them from upholding their national stances. They will continue to face challenges with a spirit of solidarity, responsibility, and steadfastness."
The local authority renewed its call upon the international community, the United Nations, and human rights and humanitarian organizations to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities toward protecting civilians and displaced persons, taking a clear and firm stance, condemning, documenting, and investigating these terrorist crimes, working to hold perpetrators and their backers accountable, and taking urgent and effective measures to ensure the necessary protection in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The Houthis had begun their escalation wave on Thursday, shelling government forces' positions in Hadramout and eastern Marib, before expanding the attacks on Friday to include areas within the city, which hosts hundreds of thousands of displaced persons.
