Yemeni Army Shoots Down Houthi Attack Drone Near Saudi Border

Yemeni army forces in the eastern province of Hadramout announced today the downing of an attack drone belonging to the Iranian‑backed Houthi militias, near the border with Saudi Arabia.

A statement issued by the Yemeni Emergency Forces – Third Brigade, a copy of which was obtained by Nashwan News, said that they shot down "today, Saturday, an attack drone belonging to the Houthi militia after it was detected outside the brigade's operational zone while approaching the border area of Al‑Wadea."

A military source in the Third Brigade reported that "surveillance and tracking systems managed to detect the drone and monitor its trajectory; it was flying at an estimated distance of about 30 kilometres outside the theatre of operations before it entered the sector's airspace."

The source explained that "the drone was heading toward populated areas and displacement camps before air defence units engaged it from a distance and successfully brought it down, scattering its wreckage. It failed to reach its target, and no damage or injuries were recorded."

While the Houthis did not immediately issue a comment, the army statement said that "the downing came as a result of the high readiness of surveillance and defence systems and the continuous vigilance of the Third Brigade's units," stressing that "the forces continue to carry out their duties in protecting the area and confronting any threats or hostile attempts targeting the security and stability of border regions."

Many areas are witnessing escalation between government forces and the Houthis, who carry out attacks with drones and ballistic missiles. However, they have suffered significant losses in recent offensives and clashes on several fronts, including strikes carried out by government forces using drones.
